COLLINSVILLE - Family-owned business Clo-Dex Carpet Care took on a royal job for the Stuart Castle in Eureka, Mo., earlier this year.
Troy Turner, owner of Clo-Dex Carpet Care, and his wife, Linda, have been in the carpet business for about a year now. Their company has already had about 100 jobs, but cleaning the Stuart Castle carpet has been their most interesting by far.
"It's quite a place to go through and look at," Turner said. "It was a pretty neat opportunity, not that many people get a crazy opportunity like that."
The Stuart Castle has been around since the 1904 World's Fair. The founder of Brown Shoe Co. built a house on the property that was used for a summer home. Around the 1950s, dermatologist Wallace Stuart bought the house and the surrounding acres from the owner. Wallace wanted to build a castle for his then-wife. After 10 years of construction on the house, she filed for divorce from the doctor.
Now the castle is in foreclosure after another doctor bought it from Wallace.
