Donate your weight - and help stock local food pantries
I've been reporting here about my struggles with weight loss. A brief reminder — I set a goal, did well, then gained it all back. Well, now I'm glad I did. Not really, but there's a challenge going on now at South Church in Portsmouth that will make it so my weight gain benefits those in need.
South Church and its youth groups are working with the Seacoast Family Food Pantry on a cool idea for a food drive. It's the first Bring Your Weight in Food Drive. From now until Nov. 20, just bring your weight in non-perishable food or perishables that sort of keep like root veggies — onions, turnips, potatoes, etc. — to South Church. For some of us, that's quite a bit of food and I'm not going to let you know exactly how many pounds of potatoes it would take for me to bring my weight in food, but suffice it to say, even if you're 100 pounds, that's a lot of jars of awesome marinara sauce and pasta, boxes of Ghiradelli Brownie Mix or yes, sacks of potatoes.
