Holidays are always a busy time when many family meals share
meals and along with that comes the problem of stains.
Stains appear in many places -- and sometimes you don't even
realize how they got there. Most stains can be removed, if treated
immediately and correctly. Knowing what caused the stain is very
helpful in removing it, too.
Pre-test the stain removal products on a concealed area --
especially if the stain is on a carpet. Removal processes and
product vary from fabric to fabric and from washable items to
carpets.
When removing stains from carpets, use the following guidelines.
Always work from the edge toward the center of the stained area.
Use the blotting technique; do not rub. Test each solvent in an
inconspicuous place, behind draperies or inside a closet, to check
for color fastness. Blot liquid stains with absorbent material,
pick up semi-solids and syrups with a spoon, vacuum soil
materials.
Use the recommended solvents/solutions, in the order listed. Use
small amounts as over-wetting can lead to other problems such as
brown spots or mildew.
